Nobel Prize nominee ChrisD has released an early beta of his online text based rpg side-project named 'Syndicate'.
In it, players can chat, fight, shoot, rob, train, vandalize, create and join crime families, build, buy and maintain buisnesses (bars, casinos, diners, gyms, gun stores etc), grow, process and deal drugs, and a whole bunch of other shinanigans. Download it here
Whatever you may wanna call it, Xi-Ziao, maker of *something* Pwned and Splinter Source, has started up a devblog for a spiritual sequel of sorts to the latter.
Tentatively (at least I hope so) titled Sneaking Mission, you can see some dev shots of the improvements made right here.
And maybe we can have some better game name suggestions in the comments while we're at it...
One of the first fruits of TIGSource's Video Game Name Generator Competition, My First Skydiving Academy, has been released (or at least a playable demo).
Made in MMF2 with hardware acceleration, you take control of a skydiving ragdoll baby thrown out of a plane in three separate locations, with the unfortunate situation of not actually having a parachute. Points are gained for taking beasts out of the sky while reheating on reentry and also for not breaking all of your bones...
Here's a tasty little treat from out of the depths of Jay Tholen's creative sack (umm... yeah).
Okay, so Epidemic is another zombie survival game, but this one's got a rocking 8-bit soundtrack and multiple weapons and throwables to decapitate and dissolve the oncoming hordes. So it gets bonus points in my book.
Bernie has released a new game entitled Stargirl and the Theif from the Exploded Moon which he describes as "a total rip-off of Cave Story, Super Mario Bros 2, Donkey Kong for the GBC and Darkside Adventures".
It features a worldmap, seventeen levels, key quests, picking up and throwing objects and enemies, bosses, four different endings, and gamepad support.
Or maybe we were all winners in some sort of sad "it's the taking part that counts" deluded way. Yes, unfortunately, the klik contingent (that'd be Fret Nice for Audio and Noitu Love 2 for the big prize) came away empty handed from last night's IGF.
What you WILL get soon though, is a 1-UP show interview with Joakim and because this is probably the first time the game has been available to play for the public, some new gameplay videos!
UPDATE Admittedly, the graphics and none of the structure are actually final in this little video, but it gives you taste of what the engine can do. Check it out.
Let me say this first. The Spirit Engine 2 is a very, very good game. You will all at first admire its fantastic pixel art, and then wonder at the spectacularly detailed environment. Then you'll realise the music you are listening to is pretty damn admirable, and suddenly you've lost three hours to following the plot dialogue and getting to grips with the surprisingly deep new battle system.
This video has finally taught me how to beat these damn monsters, because, as a final point, it's also a bit of a challenge...
